Tesla in Malaysia

Tesla has officially launched in Malaysia, and the first car to hit the market is the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y comes in three variants, and all purchases are made online. The variants include the base single motor rear-wheel drive standard range, the dual motor all-wheel drive long range, and the top-of-the-line all-wheel drive performance. The Model Y’s exterior design boasts a compact crossover look, larger than the Volvo C40 and comparable to the BMW ix3 and Mercedes-Benz eqc in size. Standard features include a white body paint, with options for black, gray, or blue at an additional cost, while red is available at a higher premium. Each variant comes with different wheel options, and the charging port is cleverly hidden in the tail light.

Impressive Performance and Range

The Tesla Model Y offers impressive performance and range across its three variants. The base single motor rear-wheel drive standard range delivers 320 horsepower and 430 newton meters of torque, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 kilometers per hour. The dual motor all-wheel drive long range steps up the power with 514 horsepower and 493 newton meters of torque, reaching 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and the same top speed as the standard range. The long-range variant boasts the highest range of 533 kilometers thanks to its 75 kilowatt-hour battery. The flagship dual motor all-wheel drive performance provides a whopping 534 horsepower and 660 newton meters of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour. However, the performance variant’s range slightly decreases to 514 kilometers due to its higher output.

Minimalistic Interior and Autopilot Features

Inside the Model Y, Tesla maintains its renowned minimalistic design with a spacious and contemporary feel. The focal point is a large 15-inch touchscreen, offering control over various functions such as navigation, air conditioning, and entertainment. The vegan leather seating comes in a standard black color, but for an additional cost, customers can opt for a white interior. The Model Y accommodates five passengers in Malaysia, but it is available with seven seats in other markets. The boot area offers up to 2,100 liters of space when the seats are folded down, thanks to its hatchback design. In terms of safety, all variants come with basic autopilot features as standard, including adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Additional options like the enhanced autopilot and full self-driving package offer more advanced features such as automatic lane changes and traffic light control.

Overall, the Tesla Model Y enters the Malaysian market with enticing pricing, starting from 199,000 Ringgit for the base variant, 246,000 Ringgit for the long-range variant, and 288,000 Ringgit for the performance variant. These prices are before any optional features. Tesla also offers warranties, including an 8-year/192,000-kilometer warranty for the battery and drive unit. With a booking fee of only 1,000 Ringgit, interested customers can secure their orders online, with estimated delivery scheduled for early 2024.
